The Most Anticipated Films of 2026

12. Flowervale Street

From David Robert Mitchell, the man behind the excellent 2017 horror ‘It Follows’, comes this intriguing 80’s set film about a family who begin to experience bizarre events in their neighbourhood. starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the plot is rumoured to feature Dinosaurs and time-travel. Count me in!

11. Saipan

On the eve of the 2002 World Cup, Ireland Captain Roy Keane quit the team following a heated argument with manager Mick McCarthy at the squads Saipan training camp.

Now Irish directors Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D’Sa bring that story to the screen, with Steve Coogan in the role of McCarthy and Éanna Hardwicke as Keane. This promises to be a fascinating exploration of two polar opposite characters and a power struggle that captivated the nations media.

10. Remain

Regardless of his patchy recent form, a new M.Night Shyamalan film is always cause for excitement.

Interestingly Remain will see the filmmaker adapt something a bit different, a novel from romance writer Nicholas Sparks. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as a grieving architect who moves to Cape Cod after leaving a psychiatric facility. While staying there, he meets a mysterious woman who makes him question his beliefs about life and loss.

9. Spider-Man: Brand New Day

After somewhat of a fallow period, the MCU returns with its big hitters this year, starting with Tom Holland in his 4th Spider-Man Film. The plot sees Peter Parker trying to focus on college and leaving his superhero antics behind, but the emergence of a new threat forces him to team with unexpected allies. Stranger things stand out Sadie Sink joins the cast while Destin Daniel Cretton, the man behind the enjoyable ‘Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings’ is at the helm.

The rumoured inclusion of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffallo’s Hulk mean expectation is rightfully high for this one.

8. Wuthering Heights

Emerald Fenell adapts the Emily Brontë classic about a passionate and tumultuous love affair set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi will star as Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, while Martin Clunes and young Emmy winner Owen Cooper co-star.

A Valentine’s Day release means it’ll be ripe for a date night audience.

7. Masters of the Universe

This is one for 80’s kids like me! Our beloved He-Man is returning to the big screen in 2026.

Director Travis Knight, who made the only decent Transformers live action film (2018’s Bumblebee), is the man making this dream a reality, while Nicholas Galitzine will be harnessing the power of Grayskull as He-Man himself. Alison Brie and Idris Elba are also on board and to top it all off their cackling nemesis Skeletor will be played by Mr method Jared Leto!

6. The Mandalorian & Grogu

After the success of the Disney Plus Show, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni bring the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda (AKA Grogu) to the big screen in an attempt to breathe fresh life into the Star Wars movie universe. Plot details are sketchy, but Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Mando while Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White co-star. This Is The Way!

5. Scream 7

Following a troubled production, which saw leading cast members Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega exit the film, original Scream writer Kevin Williamson has injected some much needed optimism by returning to direct and by bringing back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. The story will see the emergence of a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney’s daughter Tatum (Isabel May). OG cast member Courtney Cox is also returning as Gail Weathers, while Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding will bridge the gap from old to new by reprising their roles as Siblings Mindy and Chad from episodes 5 & 6.

4. Project Hail Mary

Written by Drew Goddard and based on a book by The Martian Author Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary sees Ryan Gosling as a middle school teacher and former molecular biologist who is sent on a deep space mission to prevent a global catastrophe. Sandra Hüller co-stars, while this will be director’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s first feature in 12 years.

3. The Odyssey

An amazing all star cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron join Oscar winning director Christopher Nolan for this retelling of Homer’s Greek epic. Damon is Odysseus, King of Ithaca, who embarks on a perilous journey home after the Trojan War, encountering mythical Sirens and a Cyclops along the way.

Seeing Nolan venture into the realm of Fantasy for the first time is a really mouth watering prospect and one not to be missed.

2. Avengers: Doomsday

After the sacking of Jonathan Majors, this 5th Avengers film was retooled from the Kang Dynasty into Doomsday and will now feature a returning Robert Downey Jr. as big bad Doctor Doom.

How that will work after the actor’s Iconic turn as Iron Man in the preceding films is anyone’s guess, but Endgame Directors the Russo Bros have been brought back alongside scriptwriter Stephen McFeely to make sense of it all. The Mammoth cast will feature Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth as OG Avengers Captain America and Thor, while Pedro Pascal’s new Fantastic Four team and Patrick Stewart’s classic X-Men are also on board giving the film a tantalising blend of old Marvel and new.

1. Disclosure Day

As if Steven Spielberg returning to Sci-fi is not reason enough to get excited, Disclosure day will star Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt and Colin Firth, is written by prolific scriptwriter David Koepp and is based on an original story by Spielberg himself.

The plot will follow a whistle-blower played by O’Connor who is pushing to expose the truth about alien contact after decades of government cover-ups. With themes similar to Spielberg classic Close Encounters of the third kind, this promises to be a blockbuster conspiracy thriller about the global revelation that humanity is not alone in the universe. Bring on the disclosure!
